China (Cinchona) Officinalis - The Homeopathic Remedy

Posted by Admin 0 comments
Cinchona Off or Cinchona Officinalis, also known as China, is used for relief of muscle spasms and painful cramping. Cinchona Off calms sensitive nerves, lower back pain, soreness, rigid toes and tingling feet.

It is a tree that grows to 15-20 metres in height. It is native to the rainforests of South America. The bark of the tree, from which the homeopathic remedy China is prepared, contains quinine. It has been traditionally used as an antimalarial, digestive aid, antiparasitic, antispasmodic, and antipyretic (reduces fever) and is still cultivated and used conventionally for malaria and leg cramps today.

History:- The bark of the Cinchona tree (Peruvian Bark) has been used by the Jesuits to treat malaria and other diseses that cause delirium and fevers since the seventeenth century. In many places of the world it is still used as a malaria prophylactic and cure although there are more modern quinine derivative drugs available.
Hahnemann noticed in the early eighties that quinine (the extract from the Peruvian bark used to treat malaria with great success at the time) will induce the same symptoms as malaria, the disease that it cures, if taken in excess. This eventually led to the first proving of a homeopathic remedy and the development of the modality.

Common Uses:- When the remedy matches the symptom profile, China has the ability to treat conditions such as anaemia, asthma, cholecystitis, chronic fatigue syndrome, diarrhoea, fever, gastritis, headache and migraine, inflammatory bowel disease, myalgia and neuralgia, malaria, peptic ulcer, and spenomagaly.

Homeopathic Medicine Details & Cydonia Vulgaris 30c Benefits
Cydonia oblonga also kown as Quince Caucasia in western Asia. During ancient times, Quince spread from its wild center of origin to the countries bordering the Himalaya Mountains to the east and throughout Europe to the west, but it is likely that Quince reached the Mediterranean region only in classical times (it was used by the Romans). Quince has many uses and traditions associated with it throughout this broad range.

Quince grows as a multi-stemmed shrub or small tree, 5 to 7 m in height, and has pubescent to tomentose buds, petioles (leaf stalks), leaves, and fruit. The leaves are ovate to oblong, around 5 centimeters across and 10 centimeters long. The solitary pink and white flowers, borne at the ends of short young shoots in spring, are 4 to 5 centimeters across and have 5 petals, 20 or more stamens, 5 styles, and an inferior ovary with many ovules. The flowering period overlaps with that of apples, usually beginning in mid-April in the central latitudes of the northern hemisphere. The fruit is a fragrant, many-seeded pome around 8 centimeters in diameter. It is similar to a pear or apple, but has many ovules in each carpel rather than just two. The shape ranges from round to pear-like and the flesh is yellow, Fruit size and leaf size of cultivated varieties can be many times larger than the wild type described above. All varieties are self-pollinating.

Is Cydonia Vulgaris 30c safe?
At a 30C homeopathic dilution, there is virtually no chance whatsoever that a single dose of that preparation contains even a single molecule of the original substance, so while I have no specific knowledge of Cydonia Vulgaris whatsoever, it is extremely hard to see how it could be unsafe, as any homeopathic remedy at 30C will be nothing but sugar, water or alcohol.

Ans One: Absolutely safe but dont take for more than a month,if its the right remedy u need not.

Ans Two: It depends on How you are taking it? Its a medicine, made for helping but wrong use pf medicine can cause harm.

Use Oatmeal and Yogurt to Remove Blackhead

Posted by Admin 0 comments
Blackheads are the result of blocked pores in a nutshell. A build up of sebum or oil in the sebaceous glands duct causes a blockage which oxidizes when it is mixed with the air.Clogged hair follicles, where blackheads will often appear, reflect light naturally which gives the blackhead the “black” appearance
When blackheads are extracted they will often appear more yellow to brown in color due to their high melanin content. The most common areas for blackheads to form are on the face and back particularly in acne prone skins.

The main areas on the face are around the nose, chin, and jaw line, beside ears and on cheeks. These little black specks that we have the urge to squeeze away as they are unsightly nuisances, should never be squeezed no matter how tempting it is. If you do you risk spreading bacteria to other parts of the face and permanent scarring of the skin.

Oatmeal and Yogurt Blackhead Buster

If you would like a great natural cleanser try making an apple cleanser which is excellent to use combined with this treatment.
A natural scrub which helps removes the dead skin cells and keeps the pores clear of blackheads is tomato and sugar scrub. Run out of moisturizer?
No need to do a midnight run to the 24 hr drugstore, try olive oil, the multi-purpose wonder product for the skin.

  3. Add the coarse powder to the mixing bowl and put to one side.

West Nile-positive mosquitoes found in Bridgeport

Posted by Admin 0 comments
Two pools of mosquitoes trapped at Beardsley Zoo have tested positive for West Nile virus, making Bridgeport only one of two Connecticut cities where the illness has popped up this season. Last month, the state Mosquito Management Program announced that mosquitoes trapped in Stamford tested positive for West Nile.

There have been no human cases yet, and no mosquitoes have tested positive for the much-feared Zika virus that’s sweeping the globe. “This is not unusual,” said Theodore Andreadis, director of the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, which oversees mosquito trapping and testing in the state. “This is pretty much what we expected for this time of year.”

A total of roughly 122,000 mosquitoes have been trapped and tested in Connecticut this season. Though Andreadis said there’s been a significant amount of West Nile detected in Stamford — a total of 11 pools of mosquitoes have tested positive for the illness — it’s been a relative mild season thus far.

“The number of mosquitoes has actually dropped a bit, probably because of the drought,” he said.
That might change but, so far, Connecticut has been relatively immune to the mosquito fears pervading the nation. Though most of the 1,825 United States residents who have contracted Zika have got it while traveling, there have been six cases of locally-transmitted illness, contracted in Florida.
West Nile-positive mosquitoes found in Bridgeport
Florida is the only state with local transmission, though mosquitoes capable of spreading Zika have been found in Bridgeport and Stratford. To date, 49 Connecticut residents have tested positive for Zika, but all those cases are linked to travel.

Zika virus commonly causes fever, rash or other mild symptoms and, rarely, a paralyzing neurological illness called Guillain-BarrĂ© syndrome. In pregnant women, it has been linked to the birth defect microcephaly, in which the baby’s head is smaller than average. Three of the Connecticut Zika cases are in pregnant women.

Though that illness has just made its way into the United States, West Nile has been here since 1999. The illness often has no symptoms, or causes mild illness, but for the elderly, those with compromised immune systems, and other vulnerable groups, it can cause serious illness.
Meanwhile, one Beardsley Zoo official said it isn’t disconcerting that West Nile-positive mosquitoes have been found there. The tourist attraction has been a mosquito trapping site for the state since the virus arrived in Connecticut, and these aren’t the first West Nile mosquitoes to crop up in the area, said director Gregg Dancho.

He said the zoo tries to be vigilant about controlling its mosquito population by, among other things, eliminating pools of standing water where mosquitoes can breed. “We do a very good job of keeping the mosquito population down around here,” Dancho said. “We trying to do the best animal care we can for our charges.”

Six Quick Bodybuilding Tips That Will Get You Faster Results!

Posted by Admin 0 comments
Tip 1: Focus On Lifting More Weight Over Time
The first bodybuilding tip that will make the single biggest difference on your rate of muscle gain is whether you are able to consecutively add more weight to the bar.

It's not going to matter how many fancy principles you use, if you aren't increasing the sheer amount you are lifting over a few months of time, you aren't building muscle as quickly as you should be.

The number one priority of any muscle gaining bodybuilding workout program should be lifting heavier and heavier weights.

When you get 'stuck' and aren't able to bump the weight up higher, that's when you start tinkering with other strategies such as drop sets, supersets, etc., as a means to help increase the body's potential, so that in a few more weeks, you can bump it up to the next weight level.

All those fancy protocols will definitely have an advantage down the road once you've attained a level of musculature you're satisfied with, but until that point, you should use them intermittently when you're unable to lift heavier.

Tip 2: Go One Rep Short Of Failure
The second bodybuilding tip to pay attention to is the rule on failure. Some people believe that lifting to failure each and every single set is the best way to build muscle. They think that in order to get a muscle to grow, you have to fully exhaust it.

While it is true that you have to push the muscles past their comfort level in order to see progress, you can run into a number of problems when you're lifting to failure each and every set.

The first major issue is central nervous system fatigue. Workout programs designed to go to failure each and every time will be very draining on the CNS.

After a few weeks of such a program, it's highly likely that you'll find the CNS is so exhausted that you can't even lift the weight you used to for the required number of reps little own increase it upwards.

The second problem with going to failure is that if you do this on the first exercise out in the workout, you're not going to have much for a second, third, and fourth exercise after that.

Since you should be doing at least a couple of different exercises in each workout you do, this becomes very difficult to accomplish.

Instead, aim to go one to two reps short of failure. This will still get you pushing your body hard and working at the intensity level needed to build muscle, but it won't completely destroy you so that you have to end that workout prematurely and take a day or two off just to recoup.
6 Quick Bodybuilding Tips That Will Get You Faster Results!
Tip 3: Only Perform Exercises That Work At Least Two Muscle Groups At Once
Bodybuilding tip number three is to focus on compound exercises. You only have a limited amount of time you can spend in the gym each day due to both time and recovery restraints so if you waste this time on exercises that only work one or two smaller muscle groups, you aren't exactly maximizing your potential.

Instead follow the rule that for 80% of your workout you'll only perform exercises that work at least two muscle groups.

The shoulder press, for example, will work the shoulders and the triceps. The squat will work the quads and the hamstrings. The bench press will work the shoulders, chest, and the triceps (even the biceps to a very small degree).

On the other hand, the barbell curl will only work the biceps, triceps pushdowns will only work the triceps, and leg curls will only work the hamstrings.

All of those exercises aren't really giving you the best results-to-energy invested trade-off, so it's best you keep them limited.

What's more is that compound lifts you'll typically be able to lift more weight with, and since you read the first tip in this article, you know that's paramount to success.

Tip 4: Fuel Your Body Right Before And After The Workout
The fourth tip to follow with your bodybuilding workout program is to make sure you're fueling your body properly both before and after the workout.

Failing to get in the amino acids your body will use to synthesize new muscle mass with or the carbohydrates that provide the energy to formulate the new muscle tissue is a critical error that will garner a lack of results.

If there is one time you can't be uncertain about your nutrition, it's at these two points in the day.

Throughout the rest of the day you can be a bit more flexible in terms of meal times and composition provided you're still meeting your calorie and macronutrient needs, but before and after the workout things need to be 100% 'on'.

Tip 5: Never Go More Than Two Weeks Without A Change
Fifth is the plateau busting bodybuilding tip. If you've ever reached a point with your workouts where it feels as though you are just not gaining any more muscle, this is a sure sign you're in a plateau.

Plateaus do tend to impact just about everyone at some point or another unless you are being very careful to avoid it.

What exactly is a plateau? A plateau can be defined as any point in time where you go more than two weeks without any type of progress. To you, the dedicated lifter, it spells wasted gym effort and time.

In order to prevent this plateau from occurring, your job is to make sure something in your program is always changing. This could be the order of which you perform the exercises, the amount of rest you take in between sets, or even the type of exercises you are performing.

If you can't bump up the weight in a successive session, it's time to change something else. If you do that, you will be sure you get the results you're looking for.

Tip 6: Remember Rest Is Required
Finally, to end off our bodybuilding tips, always remember to rest. Far too many people make the mistake of training too hard, too often, without allowing time for recovery.

If you don't allow the body to rest before you go back in the gym, instead of getting stronger, you're just breaking it down further and getting weaker.

Ideally you should take one day off between each weight lifting workout, but if you prefer to do an upper/lower split that has you working out at a greater frequency, then just be sure you have at least two full days off a week.

Also, for the cardio-minded, this does not mean go and do forty-five minutes of intense cardio activity. This means rest - active rest if you must (as in a light walk, jog, or swim).

If you try to push your body hard in other activities on your designated days off, it's going to impact progress.

Weight Loss Tips for a Fit & Healthy Body (Effective and Proven)

You know the drill when it comes to losing weight: take in fewer calories, burn more calories. But you also know that most diets and quick weight-loss plans don't work as promised. If you're trying to drop a few pounds fast, these expert tips will make it easy for you to lose the weight quickly. Now give attention in following advice.

1. Forget the Past and Future. A lot of progress is lost when thinking about all of the times you’ve tried to lose weight and failed, putting off dieting for a later date, or being stymied by all of the things you’ll have to do in the days to come. Focus on the now and get started!.

2. Don’t Sugar Coat Your Current State. Come to terms with how bad you’ve let yourself get, and make a promise never to return to where you’re at. It’s OK to be unhappy about the way you look, as long as you channel that energy into positive changes.

3. Don’t Overeat. This seems like a no-brainer, but it’s one of the hardest habits to break, and one of the most detrimental things you can do to your body.

4. Take on a Weight Loss Challenge. 90 days is the length of most challenges these days, but you can also find 30 and 60 day ones as well. What a challenge does is gets you to go hard out for a finite amount of time, so you can wrap your head around it. Just be sure to have a plan for when the challenge is finished.

5. Don’t Target a Specific Area. Spot treating rarely works, and can be very demotivating. Focus on improving your entire body and you’ll see those troublesome areas get better over time.

6. Don’t Let Giant Food Corporations Weigh You Down. It’s unfortunate the kind of “foods” the big food companies try to sell us. They’re filled with all sorts of additives and chemicals to get us to eat more of it. Take a timeout on pre-packaged fare.

7. Take Mandatory Me Time. If you’re always providing for others you won’t have the time needed to focus on your weight loss and fitness goals. Be sure to schedule some alone time to collect your thoughts.

8. There’s No One Way to Lose Weight. Don’t pigeonhole yourself into thinking that there’s only one way you could possibly get the results you want. There are many roads that lead to the same path, it’s about choosing the one that works best for you.

9. Why Not Live Up to Your Full Potential? Larry Winget says that the human race is the only living thing in the universe that chooses not to live to its fullest potential. The fit and healthy you is possible, so why not go for it!

10. Integrate Your Different Life Spaces. If you find that you’re an angel while at home, and a devil at work when it comes to eating junk, or vice versa, try to connect your different personas so you’re not working against yourself.

12. You Can’t Get It Wrong. Many dieters think they’ve got to get it just right in order to be successful. But trying and failing is better than not trying at all. Every step you take in the right direction is helping, and is better than a step in the wrong direction.

13. Turn Up the Love. Dieting can put you in a state of self-loathing and grumpiness if you let it, but this is actually detrimental to your overall well-being. Show some love for yourself and be grateful for what you have and your efforts will be more effective.

14. Avoid Toxic People. You’ll likely find that there are some people in your life that seem to bring you down, especially when they see you start to change for the better. It’s best to avoid them if at all possible, and re-evaluate your relationship with them.

15. Find a Step-by-Step Program. If you’re just venturing into the world of fitness, or are too busy to develop your own plan, find one where they lay it all out for you, and just connect the dots each day.

16. Try Kettlebells. Kettlebells can be a bit intimidating at first, but they’re so effective because they combine an aerobic routine and strength training into one. Take a class to get the right form down, and then you can go off on your own.

17. Hack Your Life. These days it’s possible to look up any problem you’re having on the road to weight loss and get a fast answer from someone that’s been there. Example: Having trouble peeling a hard boiled egg?

18. Stop Changing the Formula. A true fitness professional has dedicated themselves to getting other in excellent condition. Follow their advice and stop trying to add your own ideas or methods, or twisting it up from what works.

19. Go to Bed Early. You set up the next day by how well you sleep the night before. If you’re staying up late into the night you’re making it more likely that you’ll start the day off on the wrong foot. Plus your organs and systems need sleep in order to function at their best.

20. Wake Up Early. If you go to bed early enough, you can wake up early and still get your 8 hours. You’ll also be allowing your body to flush out toxins by emptying your bladder and evacuating your bowels at the optimal time of day.

21. Imitate Your Favorite Celebrity Chef. The more meals you cook for yourself the better. You’ll have more control of the ingredients you use, and appreciate your food more since you made it.

22. Take a Longer View. We all want to lose weight like yesterday, but it took awhile for you to get to this point, and it’s going to take some time to get yourself back to good. Be patient and keep the bigger picture in mind.

23. Switch up the Chocolate. Just because you’re dieting it doesn’t mean you have to give up the chocolate, if that’s your weakness. Just make sure that it’s dark chocolate, and that it’s in moderation.

24. Turn Off the TV. You’ll not only benefit by being more likely not to veg out on the couch, you’ll skip the ads for all the fast food, pizza, and chain restaurants.

25. Meditate and Use Visual Imagery. Rather than focusing on how hungry you are or on the things you’re giving up, spend time clearing your head and picturing yourself the way you want to be.

26. Get a Therapeutic Massage. It’s more than just calories in and out, it’s about feeling good and few things can get you there faster than a massage by a licensed and experienced physical therapist.

27. Stop with the Fizz. Cutting carbonated beverages can go a long way towards helping you reach your goal weight. They not only work to dehydrate you, but many contain caffeine, and even more contain High Fructose Corn Syrup which will really trip up your efforts.

28. Work the Core. This doesn’t mean doing endless crunches or spot treating the stomach. There are many variations of exercises you can do. The core muscles help with many movements throughout the day, and can help relieve pressure on the back.

29 Take a Pass on the Latest Craze. Once you step back from the merry-go-round of the latest trends you can see how silly they are. Choose a solid program to follow and stick with it.

30. Focus on Being Healthier All Around. Yes, the goal is to lose weight, but if you dig deeper you’ll see that feel better is the core of the motivation, and that involves improving the body’s many functions with a holistic approach to health and well-being.

Lose weight in a week
You’ll find that many diet programs have you getting into the idea of eating multiple meals per day and smaller sizes at each, but really it’s just a matter of being strategic and making sure that you don’t run into a situation where you’re super hungry and haven’t planned out your next meal or snack and then grab anything just to appease your stomach.
Hydration Therapy (Drink More Water):- It’s easy to get dehydrated, and many of us are and don’t even realize it. Simply drinking more water has been shown to be an effective means of weight loss for many, as it can curb your hunger, and many times the signal for thirst is confused for hunger, so keeping a bottle of water nearby can be very helpful.

It’s also going to help your body flush toxins and other waste from your system, keeping your liver and your kidneys properly engaged. Being well hydrated also means you’ll have improved digestion, as your digestive organs suffer as well from a state of dehydration.
Get a Fitness Tracker:- Getting an objective look at how much or how little you move per day can be the wake up call needed to spur on more activity. Today’s fitness trackers can record all sorts of data, including how many steps you take, how many stairs you take, and even how well you’re sleeping at night. this information is graphed and presented to you in easy to understand charts so that you can easily determine how good of a day or week you’ve had. You get instant gratification from trying to outdo your best performance, and some of the trackers out there actually make it into a game, translating your data into how high up a mountain you would have climbed.
Start Playing a Sport:- It’s hard to get the motivation to exercise and get active, and getting involved in a sport makes it more fun, and also adds some accountability if you play a team sport or find a buddy to play with. It can be most any sport really, but of course you’ll want to pick one that has you moving around a lot if you plan on losing 3 pounds a week until you reach your goal weight. When you have a race coming up, or a game coming up, it’s easier to motivate yourself to get practicing or get training, rather than just finding the individual motivation to go for a run or to go to the gym.
Cut Out Sugar:- Cutting out sugar can be hard for many because it is so prevalent in our society. Many sugary candies are labeled fat free, which is technically true, except that the body turns that excess sugar into fat, so in essence sugar is making you fat, and is also wreaking havoc on your blood glucose levels, which can lead to complications if left unchecked. You don’t have to go completely off sugar forever, but going cold turkey is the best way to eradicate it from your life, lose weight effectively, and kick any cravings you have. Once you reach the weight you want you can reintroduce it into your diet in small amounts if you find that you even want it anymore.
Walk One Hour Every Day:- If you change nothing else in your lifestyle and simply start walking for an hour per day, you’ll see your weight reach its natural healthy level in no time at all. This doesn’t have to be a brisk walk either, you can simply go at a relaxing pace, but be sure you go for an hour. Take your walk outdoors in the sunshine for best results, although a treadmill can be used on rainy days. This is a great time to listen to audiobooks, or your favorite tunes to feel good, get your body moving, all in a low impact exercise that’s the most natural in the world.
Build Lean Muscle: Building lean muscle is a way to increase your metabolism so you’re burning more calories each day, which in essence will help you lose the pounds. Be aware that when you start shifting your body structure so that it has less fat, and more muscle, you might not see much of a difference on the scale. When losing pounds you want to make sure that you’re tracking the right pounds, as a pound of muscle gained in exchange for losing a pound of fat will make a huge difference to your health, while showing no change on the scale. Get a scale that also measures your body fat percentage so that you can get an accurate reading on the progress you’re making.
Start Doing Yoga: Yoga is a great exercise for those that want to increase the mobility in their life, achieve an inner state of joy, and also to work up a sweat. You are stretching out the body, increasing flexibility, and allowing it to perform better, all in one activity. You can start off with whichever poses you find that you’re able to do, and work your way up to more complicated ones. It’s something you can practice just about anywhere, and the combination of stretching, strength training, and cardio is sure to help you shed the pounds. The nice part about yoga is that it’s very natural, so you’re not forcing the body to do things it wasn’t meant to do.
Cut Off Junk Food and Fast Food: It’s really hard to get rid of the junk food that surrounds us each day, but breaking this habit can do wonders for your health and wellbeing and is sure to show dividends when you do your weekly weigh-in. Not only is there no nutritional benefit from eating junk food, hence the name, but it also makes you feel lethargic and makes you less likely to engage in any sort of exercise. By cooking yourself real food you are able to have quality control over what is going into your body, and you’ll be cutting out things like trans fat, partially hydrogenated oils, MSG, and other nasties that can really make a mess of your internal organs, and the way you feel overall.

Amazing Method "Burn" Fat Overnight (Try This Today)

Posted by ali Jabed 0 comments
You can reverse course and keep your metabolism cranking overnight with these simple steps.
Sleep in a cool room: Cranking the radiator at night burns through little more than your gas bill.
Research from the National Institutes of Health says that turning down your thermostat to a cool 66 degrees Fahrenheit cuts 7 percent more calories, as your body burns fat to maintain its core temperature.

Upgrade your protein shake: Feed your hungry muscles by trading whey for casein in your post-workout shake. This slow-release protein is gradually digested over 8 hours and keeps your metabolic fires burning through the night.
Dutch researchers also say that casein enhances protein synthesis, which helps you cut an extra 35 calories a day for every pound of new muscle gained.

Freeze your butt (and gut) off: An icy shower does more than flush out lactic acid after the gym. Research in PLoS ONE finds that a 30-second freeze is all it takes to activate your body’s brown fat—which, when fired up, melts as much as an extra 400 calories in bed.

Make sure you stick your head under the faucet: More brown fat is stored in the back of your neck and shoulders.

Lift weights at night: After work, head straight from your desk to the dumbbell rack and you can boost your metabolic rate for 16 hours, according to the International Journal of Sport Nutrition. No gym membership? No problem. Our at-home DVD program, THE 21-DAY METASHRED, will ignite your fat-burning furnace until morning.

Drink a different kind of brew: The flavonoids found in green tea boost your metabolism—and if it’s your third cup of the day, you’ll burn 3.5 percent more calories overnight, according to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Don’t worry about caffeine content. Green tea will help keep you up for the news at 10, but not all night.

Way to cure diabetes naturally without medication

Yes, Type 2 Diabetes Can Be Reversed.
By Dr. Candice Hall, D.C.
I admit, this is a topic about which I am passionate. At the helm of the integrative/functional health practice I founded in Irvine, Calif., I’ve worked with hundreds of people suffering from diabetes, thyroid disease, immune disorders and a myriad of chronic and degenerative conditions. It is amazing to see so many patients in our practice reduce the symptoms of, or even reverse, their condition.

I am particularly gratified when considering how many patients have found it possible to reduce, or even eliminate, their need for prescription drugs. How is this possible?

Much has to do with the vantage point of “upstream” versus “downstream” approaches to illness and health.

When a blood test indicates that you have diabetes, what happens? In a “downstream” approach to illness and treatment, the symptom that produced the diagnoses — high blood sugar — is treated with drugs. For example, insulin brings the blood sugar measurements into a normal range, and you’re “managing” diabetes. Except that you’re not.

In contrast, an “upstream” view of health looks to determine the “whys” of a patient’s condition. For instance, many diabetics are confused and frustrated by the fact that they eat better than many people they know, yet they struggle with weight and diabetes, while others eat whatever they want and don't have to worry about their blood sugars. In an “upstream” approach, the real question is — why? Why are my blood sugars high or volatile? Why am I being given medications to “manage” my condition, rather than solutions to address the underlying cause of the problem?

The course of action each individual takes is highly personal, clearly. And in some cases, medication is not only required, but is life-saving. In many cases, however, patients suffering from degenerative disorders may be over-medicated or even wrongly medicated.

This is why integrative/functional medicine is such a vital approach to well-being, and is becoming a force in empowering each of us to return to optimum health. This is personal to me because I suffered from a total of three autoimmune disorders by the time I had reached 28.

The alternatives are daunting. Beyond an epidemic, diabetes is approaching pandemic proportions. In 1985, the worldwide prevalence of diabetes was 30 million people. In 2000, it was 150 million. By 2030, it could be 250 million. It is my personal mission to do all in my power to turn this equation around.

So what can you do?

1. Don’t accept degenerative conditions as “normal.” They are not a normal part of life or of aging and should certainly not become status quo. There is likely much you can do before or beyond prescription medicine.

2. Strongly consider integrative and functional medicine. It is a different approach in which practitioners can often trace underlying causes of disease to its very source. Specialized means of diagnosis can help effectively narrow down the cause, while traditional diagnostics may also be used to confirm findings. Integration of functional and traditional diagnostics and treatments can allow patients to use established therapies where warranted, while also helping to address root causes to slow or even reverse disease progression rather than simply masking symptoms or managing a condition with drugs.

3. Take charge of your own life and health. Ask the hard and probing questions. Fully investigate your alternatives. Make (or at least try) the lifestyle changes that are indicated for your health concern.

You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain by being as fully informed and proactive as possible about your well-being and health.

Dr. Candice Hall, D.C., is an author, speaker and authority on integrative and functional health, particularly as an approach to diabetes and other degenerative conditions. Hall was awarded “Physician of the Year” in 2005 for a paper she developed on Healthcare Reform by the National Republican Congressional Committee. She holds a bachelors degree in Human Biology, a Doctorate in Chiropractic and has 14 years of postgraduate education in Functional Health Care. Hall is Chief of Staff and a driving force behind Next Advanced Medicine, in Irvine California. Her life’s mission is to help eradicate Type 2 Diabetes.
